VulcanForms Inc. seeks an Additive Manufacturing Product Development Intern for our Devens, MA location.
Job purpose
As an Additive Manufacturing Product Development Intern at VulcanForms, Devens, MA, your main objective will be to collaboratively design, develop, and implement a robust, digitally driven value stream of a high-speed laser powder-bed fusion (LPBF) process for industrial applications. You will be part of the team to define and execute process and application development strategies and roadmaps for the world's most productive and advanced metal AM system, to produce qualified products in the fast-paced digital manufacturing environment. You will collaborate with our machine, software, controls, simulation, product, and operations experts to continuously improve and optimize the printing processes and associated workflow. Your work's primary result is to enable and support an end-to-end value stream for mass production to provide our customers with superior parts of the highest quality.
You will also work with a cross-disciplinary internal team to further improve our AM system design and performance. You will participate in and provide first-hand feedback for NPI programs, including engineering, operations and supply chain development and implementation.
Key Accountabilities
- Create process recipes, including build files, post-process steps, and machining interfaces for products in the VulcanForms ecosystem
- Use of CAD programs to support print campaigns and tooling
- Hands on support of Design of Experiments and data analysis
- Create work instructions and other documentation for operational handoffs
- Assist engineers in documentation, planning, and other day-to-day responsibilities
- Troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues via structured problem solving and first principles
Qualifications
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a STEM field
- Fundamental understanding of additive and subtractive manufacturing technologies
- Basic proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Siemens NX, Creo, or SolidWorks
- Ability to read technical drawings and interpret tolerances
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic familiarity with programming languages such as python and MATLAB
- Basic familiarity with AM-related software (Magics, nTopology, etc.)
- Familiarity with subtractive manufacturing operations (such as milling, turning, etc) and associated design constraints
