GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Collections & Recovery Support Specialist is a versatile and proactive position, providing essential support to the Collections and Recovery departments. This role requires adaptability, strong organizational skills, and a solid understanding of credit union operations. The primary responsibility of the Collections & Recovery Support Specialist is to assist in various tasks related to collections and recovery, ensuring efficient operations and timely resolution of accounts in default. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years collections, repossession, or recovery related experience

     

Minimum Knowledge & Skill Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to negotiate effectively and maintain professional composure in challenging situations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented and able to maintain accurate records and documentation.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:

This job requires the employee to sit or stand for extended periods of time.  Infrequent lifting up to 25 lbs.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must comply with all aspects of the Bank Secrecy Act and the Regulation F requirements for collections.

 

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES AND TASKS:

  1. Maintains post repossession files through timely follow up and posting of all cancelled Optional Product refunds.
  2. Prepares account files for collection agency referral and processes any media requests. .
  3. Processes ChexSystems disputes.
  4. Generates and distributes Collection/Recovery reporting.
  5. Assists with the repossession process while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Tasks include but are not limited to; handling repossession notices, reviewing accounts and determining appropriate course of action, managing assets and the disposition, and filing claims. 
  6. Assists with the bankruptcy process while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Tasks include but are not limited to the following: updating accounts to reflect the appropriate bankruptcy status, serving as a primary point of contact for bankruptcy attorneys, trustees, and Members, collaborating with legal counsel to handle complex legal matters and seek guidance on bankruptcy-related issues, and preparing/filing proof of claims and reaffirmation agreements. 
  7. Assists with the collections/recovery process while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Tasks include but are not limited to the following: communicating with Members to resolve delinquent accounts, skip tracing to locate Members/assets, posting recovery payments, and processing hardship assistance requests. 
  8. Provides administrative assistance to the Collections and Recovery departments to include tasks such as mail processing, data entry, file maintenance, and document preparation.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Salary range is $18.74 - $24.59/hour.  Job Grade, NE 9.  Final salary is dependent on candidate's experience and qualifications.
