Description
The primary function of the staff accountant is to assist with the general accounting operations of the company. This position is with O'Neil Industries, Inc., the parent company of the W.E. O'Neil Construction subsidiaries. The staff accountant will apply principles of accounting to record and review financial information, including general ledger accounts and job cost transactions. The staff accountant's goal is to assist in ensuring accuracy and effectiveness in accounting data Company wide.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing balance sheet / income statement account reconciliations on a monthly and / or quarterly basis including cash, legal fees, donations, misc. assets and accruals.
- Assisting with various day-to-day banking functions including but not limited performing positive pay uploads (fraud prevention application within banking system).
- Setting up and updating vendors in accounting system including verifying proper tax classification for year-end 1099 tax forms.
- Preparing and gathering supporting documentation for the various audits throughout the year (interim financial statement audit, year-end financial statement audit, insurance audits, etc.).
- Recording transactions for parent company and joint venture companies
- Owner and subcontractor billing entry (applicable to JV companies only)
- Cash receipt entry
- Vendor check processing
- Assisting with fixed assets :
- Tracking of asset additions and disposals
- Monthly depreciation calculations using Sage software
- Job cost equipment monthly charges
- Maintaining employee company vehicle list for tax purposes
- Adhering to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and proper internal controls
- Assisting with 1099 preparation
- Additional responsibilities to be assigned as role develops
