Library Technician III / Media Specialist

Certifications
- Maine DOE Certification (023) - Education Technician III
- Performs clerical, informational, instructional, and/or computer duties in the library media center that require knowledge of library organization, reference materials, bibliographic sources, curriculum standards, and print, audio, and video materials acquisitions and processing.
- Maintains library atmosphere conducive to academic, literacy, and educational activities.
- Provides library and information literacy skills instruction to individuals and classes. Plans, teaches, and reinforces appropriate library curriculum lessons designed to make students effective users of information.
- Assists with and plans and implements library activities to support current curricula.
- Stimulates and encourages literacy by exposing students to a rich and varied collection of current and classic literature.
- Works in an environment that has been profoundly affected by technology, will received training in order to work with others to utilize sophisticated electronic resources and maintains a constant focus on the nature, quality, and ethical uses of information available in these and in more traditional tools.
- Trains volunteers and student aids where applicable.
- Prepares bibliographies and reading lists.
- Performs clerical, and/or computer duties in the library media center.
- Assists with budget development.
- Assists with material selection.
- Circulates books and other learning resources.
- Maintains statistical and circulation records.
- Schedules use of library for classes, groups, and individuals.
- Schedules volunteers and student aides where applicable.
- Catalogs and maintains material collections.
- Maintains the automated library computer system.
- Follows established district library policies.
- Follows all necessary requirements regarding time clock procedures.
- Performs related duties as assigned by supervising librarian and/or building administrator.
- Carries out other duties and responsibilities as assigned by building principal or his/her designee.
Experience
- 2 yrs expereince prefered
- School Year Only 179 days
- School Day 8:30 - 3:45
- Travel between schools or district buildings may be required at times
Reports To: Building Principal
Terms of Employment: As determined annually by the District.
Evaluation: Completed annually by buidling Principal or their designee.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
