Job Summary:
A Carpenter Journeyman constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and patent-type form systems using hand tools and power tools within tolerances that conform to drawings and specifications, as well as directing and training Carpenter helpers to do the same.
Overview of Primary Duties:
- Builds wooded structures, such as stairs, concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to blueprints, or oral instructions, and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
- Measures boards, timbers, or plywood using a square, measuring tape, and ruler and marks cutting lines on materials using a pencil and scriber.
- Shapes materials to required sizes using saws, chisels, and planes.
- Operation of electric and pneumatic tools.
- Selects, loads, and hauls job material to the work site.

Qualifications:
Level III:
- Four (4) years of heavy industrial-related carpenter experience
- NCCER Carpenter journeyman certification
Level II:
- Four (4) years of heavy industrial-related carpenter experience
- NCCER Performance Carpenter journeyman verification
- Other verified experiences or certifications with carpenter experience
Level I:
- Four (4) years of heavy industrial-related carpenter experience
Requirements:
- Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation
- Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
- Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

- Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
- Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4 or above
- Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
- Ability to talk and hear to communicate
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
