W J Carey Contruction is currently seeking a Construction Superintendent for our South Whitley, IN office. This position is a combination of overseeing the construction project and managing the construction team.
Job Description
Job purpose: Oversee the personnel at a construction site and supervise the planning and scheduling of projects.
Accountable for:
· Work with Project Manager to meet project goals
· Ensure quality workmanship per plans, specs and W J Carey standards
· On-budget crew production & equipment hours
· Manage crew & equipment requirements
· Manage material needs
· Schedule subcontractors
· Pro-active communication
· Contract conformance
· Manage Project Safety needs to eliminate accidents
· Enforce W J Carey field production standards & methods
· People management: Train/Reviews
· Maintain Positive work environment
· Maintain positive team player attitude
· Liaison with owner on field issues
· Other duties as assigned
Responsible for:
· Finish projects on-time on schedule
· Review and understand complete Scope, Documents, Plans, Specification & Standards
· Attend pre-construction start-up meeting with Project Manager
· Assist Project Manager prepare & update project schedules monthly to meet updated & changing schedules
· Manage, schedule, manpower, supplies, equipment, and subcontractors
· Prepare 4 week ‘Look-Ahead’ schedules weekly & submit to Project Manage every Friday PM
· Inspect & maintain quality workmanship per industry standards & contract documents
· Prepare ongoing weekly project punch list & safety inspection – turn in every Friday
· Ensure all construction is built per the contract, plans & specifications.
· Document all issues, changes, notices, change order requests, RFI’s, etc.
· Ensure all extra work is approved by PM
· Supervise and maintain a clean and safe project and work site
· Manage, coordinate and call for all City, County, Federal, Utility, Inspections, Locates & Tests required
· Prepare daily report of all activities, workers, inspections, etc. with photos
· Communicate daily with Project Manager to discuss project issues, progress, requirements & goals
· Prepare & manage SWWPS Reports weekly & as required
· Timely scheduling of job inspection, material deliveries, locates, testing, etc.
· Contact subcontractors & supplies 3 weeks early (before they are required on the job)
· Meet with Project Manager weekly to review job cost production & equipment hours to meet budget
· Attend W J Carey field superintendent meeting to review: costs, schedule, change orders, equipment, men, subcontractors, customer, safety, quality, issues
· Ensure company equipment, vehicles & tools are clean, maintained, utilized & job charged
· Call off/cancel equipment as necessary
· Manage jobsite general conditions; temporary facilities, utilities, job site security, etc.
· Never leave jobsite without a lead foreman in charge
· Maintain, prepare & update as built drawings
· Approve and sign timecards and material delivery tickets daily & correctly cost code each item
· Inspect all pre-jobs 3 day prior to crew work start
· Train crew & foreman to accept more responsibility
· Enforce W J Carey standards, policies & rules
· Maintain positive work environment and team player attitude
· Report all crew injuries & site accidents within 24 hours of Incident to Operations Coordinator
· Learn/utilize provided phones, computers, timecards, tracking devices
· Hold daily crew huddle at 7 AM on job and start work by 7:15 AM
Qualifications:
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Valid Driver’s License
· Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
· Five years commercial construction experience or related experience.
· Must be able to layout work assignments to produce maximum quality and quantity with a minimum of supervision.
· Must possess a cooperative attitude and a dedication to the mission of W J Carey, along with the ability to communicate well with people and to maintain harmonious working relationships.
Working conditions:
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in both inside and outside weather conditions.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
