Position Summary
This position is physically located in Washington, D.C.
Reporting to the Administrative and Office Specialist, the Events Assistant is responsible for the logistics of all proactive and inbound Washington Center events. Examples of events include annual staff and faculty D.C. trips; fundraising events; program networking receptions and general programming; student orientation; family weekends; staff retreats; and graduating student outreach.

Employee eligibility depends on the likelihood of the employee succeeding in a remote work arrangement and the supervisor’s ability to manage remote workers. Advertised Pay Range Up to $20 per hour Advertised Pay Range Statement
All hiring rates are commensurate with relevant experience up to the advertised amount considering internal alignment.

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
- Engage catering, book venues, communicate with vendors and conference center staff, manage RSVPs and print name tags.
- Provide on-site day-of event customer service including helping set up; provide audiovisual/lighting assistance; act as a greeter and host; and create and post visually appealing signs.
- Ensure that the Center’s internal calendar accurately reflects all internal and external activity and that events are promoted/placed on campus-wide calendars.
Conditions of Employment
- This is a non-exempt position, eligible to receive overtime in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position may be subject to overtime during high peak times, etc. as directed and approved by the supervisor.
- All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 29 hours per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
- The incumbent is required to have a valid driver’s license if they need to travel to Williamsburg, VA for main campus events (a vehicle will be provided if needed.)
- The ability to work frequent evenings and weekends is required.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Working knowledge (typically 1-3 years of experience,) with public events dealing with logistics, publicity, and/or communication.
- Post-high school education such as an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience managing multiple projects with varying deadlines in a professional setting.
