About the Role
The Animal Care and Enrichment Specialist is a crucial position at W.O.L.F. Sanctuary, responsible for providing routine and specialized animal care, including enrichment activities. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team that prioritizes the welfare and well-being of our animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Animal Care: Assist with diet, routine health, housing, level of human contact, and enrichment for each animal.
- Report animal issues to management, including behavioral changes.
- Contribute to maintaining animal care records, incorporating information from volunteers as directed by management.
Duties and Expectations
- Provide input on animal protocols and enrichment, as requested by management.
- Communicate animal protocols, enrichment, dietary, and other information to staff, volunteers, and interns, as directed.
- Follow habitat entry protocols and ensure others do so as well.
- Participate in annual review of evacuation protocol and drills.
Additional Duties
- Perform occasional additional duties as assigned by management.
- Respond to emergency situations as directed.
- Complete corrective actions identified in Incident Reports or other means, submitting them to management for review and approval.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Two years' experience with animal husbandry.
- Preferred experience: hands-on experience with animal husbandry and catch-up procedures for wolf dogs, knowledge of unique housing and food needs of wolf dogs.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
The Animal Care and Enrichment Specialist will perform duties in an outdoor setting in extreme weather conditions and some indoor office work and computer tasks. Ability to lift 50 lbs., walk in rugged terrain in extreme weather, perform manual labor, and walk large animals on leash.
