Position Title : Estimator (HVAC / Plumbing)
Employment Type : Full-time
Salary Range : $95,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
Location : Clinton MA
Reports To : Director of Procurement and Estimating
Position Summary
The Estimator will oversee all aspects of HVAC and plumbing project estimation, including reviewing proposals, analyzing blueprints and specifications, attending walkthroughs, calculating labor, material, and equipment requirements, and facilitating project turnover meetings. The role also involves supporting submittal reviews and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
Key Responsibilities Pre-Estimation and Proposal Analysis :
Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and internal teams through clear communication and support.
Review customer proposals to fully understand project scope, including interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
Clearly articulate questions or concerns to customers for clarification and risk assessment.
Bid Preparation and Coordination :
Attend bid walkthroughs and proposal meetings to gather necessary project information.
Prepare labor, material, and equipment estimates using software such as FastPipe and FastDuct.
Identify and engage appropriate equipment vendors and subcontractors to ensure multiple competitive bids are received.
Collaborate with project managers (PMs) to transition labor, equipment, and material requirements during turnover meetings.
Project Execution and Compliance :
Review vendor and subcontractor drawings and submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications.
Prepare project estimates and margin mark-ups in line with company guidelines.
Coordinate with PMs to review all project documents during kickoff meetings.
Ongoing Support :
Participate in bid review meetings prior to proposal submission.
Assist project teams with change orders as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Procurement and Estimating.
Qualifications Experience :
Minimum of 5 years of commercial estimating experience, preferably in HVAC, plumbing, or refrigeration industries.
Proficiency in estimation software such as FastPipe and FastDuct.
Skills :
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Strong organizational and negotiation skills.
Education :
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
