Health Care Staff Attorney
Location : Los Angeles, CA
Our client is seeking a mission-driven, dedicated individual to join their organization as a Health Care Staff Attorney. This is a full-time, exempt position offering an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children, youth, and caregivers affected by the child welfare system.
Responsibilities
Assist medical providers, youth, and caregivers with issues related to medical consent, Medi-Cal coverage, early developmental services, and home approvals for children with medical or developmental needs.
Serve as the staff attorney for the MLK Clinic, screening potential clients, providing legal advice and representation, and collaborating with other programs to connect patients with resources.
Represent caregivers and youth to obtain medical services through Treatment Authorization Requests and appeal Medi-Cal or other health-related benefit denials at administrative hearings.
Develop, implement, and manage legal support for the program, including materials, training, and supervision of student interns and pro bono attorneys.
Supervise the intake process, identify legal issues and strategies, and provide guidance to staff and student interns.
Create and maintain program materials for clients, pro bono attorneys, and the community.
Conduct community training sessions and collaborate with service providers to maximize support for families and children.
Work with policy teams to identify systemic issues and provide information to support system change initiatives.
Collaborate with development, communications, and administrative staff to support funding opportunities, grant applications, and impact evaluation.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education : J.D. degree (required) with active membership in the California Bar.
Experience : 3-5 years of experience advocating for physical or mental health care, Medi-Cal, Medicaid, or other health-related benefits. Prior experience working in the medical field or reviewing medical records is preferred.
Skills : Strong understanding of healthcare and insurance systems, excellent advocacy skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary : $83,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience.
