Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Purchasing Manager that will be responsible for ensuring that on-hand and available (steel and commodities) supply is adequate for all existing and anticipated requirements. Maintain an accurate physical inventory and administer existing stock replenishment programs. Maintain contacts with suppliers and create new consignment/stocking programs where needed
Responsibilities
Maintain proper levels of inventory and in supplier stocking/consignment programs, monitor inventory levels and implement corrective actions where required.
Maintain new and existing agreements with suppliers for inventory consignment/stocking programs. Make sourcing decisions that are in line with sourcing strategy based on supplier's ability to meet expected quality, price and delivery requirements.
Provide timely information to sales department to provide quotations (price, availability, lead time) and to answer customer inquiries, maintaining prices up to date in Visual/ERP System.
Coordinate with sales, production, and engineering to work out substitutions for unavailable and non-stock tooling and raw material sizes and grades.
Create, edit and maintain all purchasing and material handling procedures relative to steel and commodity procurement.
Maintain records of supplier performance and approved supplier list.
Optimize and coordinate agreements with Outsource Machining and other external services. (Maintain Price list on Visual/ERP)
Release steel from supplier stocking/consignment programs to inventory to support the saw schedule.
Conduct cycle counts and physical inventories as needed.
Ensure all purchases have proper authority approvals prior to order placement and are received per procedure.
Locate and purchase steel from alternate suppliers when steel is unavailable in a timely manner from regular sources.
Maintain (update) steel availability reports, and chip/scrap reports.
Provide timely and accurate EDI reporting of steel receipt and usage for consignment programs.
Maintain file of all quotations, purchase requisitions, purchase orders, acknowledgments, receiving paperwork, receipt logs and end-of-month reports and any other pertinent documents.
Coordinate inbound and outbound material logistics in the most cost effective manner.
Interpret material specifications for all material purchases.
Lead purchasing cost reduction efforts.
Review and maintain purchasing contracts in accordance with Company policy.
Promptly perform Monthly and Quarterly Supply chain reports on KPIs.
Uniformly enforce all plant rules and procedures within the department to ensure safe operating practices in order to prevent employee injury and/or equipment failure. Report safety problems/concerns to the EHS Manager.
