Quality Control Manager - Structural Steel Industry
Location : In-office position - Local candidates or those willing to commute only
Job Summary :
A Quality Control Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of work performed by production staff. This role requires a high degree of proficiency in the structural steel industry , including knowledge of codes and standards to verify that the final product meets all contract requirements.
Note : Candidates must be a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to apply.
Key Responsibilities :
Quality Control & Compliance :
Conduct daily quality checks on the shop floor to ensure all products meet contract specifications
Perform dimensional and visual inspections of shop fabrication, including final paint inspections, weld preparations, and final welds
Ensure all received materials, parts, and consumables meet quality requirements
Maintain and ensure company compliance with AISC Standards
Welding & Fabrication Oversight :
Submit weld submittals for new projects and create new weld procedures
Conduct welder qualification testing and maintain welder certification logs
Schedule and coordinate job inspections with the Shop Foreman
Identify and address fabrication defects , working closely with foremen and shop personnel
Audits & Reporting :
Track in-process repairs, non-conformance, corrective actions, and cost of poor quality
Review and prepare for Annual AISC Audits
Maintain quality assurance and production control records
Coordinate with 3rd party inspectors during inspection phases
Project & Documentation Support :
Review structural drawings and compose Shop RFIs prior to kick-off meetings
Notify Purchasing and Project Managers of job-specific quality requirements
Assist shop personnel in interpreting drawings and specifications
Qualifications :
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) - REQUIRED
- 10 years of relevant work experience
- Strong knowledge of AISC standards and audits
- Experience in quality control, structural steel fabrication, and compliance
