What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist / Environmental Field Specialist position at W3Global Inc.?
We're also looking for a scientist to work in Plain city, OH office 40 hours a week. The fieldwork will be in different locations, but they will report to this Plain city, OH office.
Management/Supervision
Independently carry out tasks routinely a part of professional services offered (such as well sampling programs, simple design tasks);
Prepare for and implement field tasks (such as soil, groundwater, air, soil gas, sediment, and surface water sampling); remedial system installation; and system operation and maintenance as specified in work plans and other documents;
Effectively work with Project Manager to prepare for field work in advance of project needs;
Effectively work with Project Manager, QA/QC and Health & Safety personnel to review lab quotes, sampling protocol, and health and safety needs in advance of project work;
Implement health and safety plans and work with Health & Safety Officer1 to assure safe work conditions;
Implement quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) plans and procedures to assure collection of accurate and legally defensible data;
Develop strong organizational skills.
Technical Knowledge
Perform routine maintenance activities on remediation systems;
Maintain field equipment;
Identify additional training needs, in a defined area (such as groundwater modeling, bioremediation, groundwater treatment, USTs, field methods, data validation, etc.);
Develop a working knowledge of the regulations which underlie much of work performed by the firm (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA, SDWA, VAP) or in field of work (e.g., National Electric Code, ASTM Standards);
Assist in the development of cost estimates for design implementation;
Develop technical skills and embrace the continual improvement efforts of the firm; and
Develop computer skills and effectively use email, word processing, spreadsheet, project scheduling, and project management software.
Problem Solving
Resolve problems routine to position (e.g., changes in field conditions, modifications to work plans, or changes in design parameters);
Develop problem-solving skills; and
Perform computations and process data using computer software or other established methods.
Communications
Prepare draft level field reports/design tasks or sections of reports and plans for subsequent incorporation into more comprehensive reports/designs;
Prepare accurate, complete, and legible field documents detailing the work conducted in the field;
Develop working relationships and effectively communicate with client representatives on project matters;
Keep supervisors routinely appraised of project activities;
Develop writing and report organization skills; and
Develop communication and interpersonal skills.
Client Relations
Desire to develop new client contacts;
Communicate client requests and needs to supervisors; and
Assist in the development and implementation of business development strategies and opportunities.
Requirements
• Bachelor Degree from an accredited institution (or 5-years of relevant experience);
• Valid Drivers License;
• OSHA Hazardous Materials Worker Training (40-hr or 24-hr training).
Other
Position may involves long work days (10 hours typical in the field), travel to out-of-town locations as much as 75% of the time, overnight stays may be required depending on distance to job site;
Some lifting, physical work using hand tools, and walking required;
Use of personal protective equipment sometimes necessary; and,
Position is considered exempt from overtime;
Salary : $55,000 - $60,000
