The Organization : We are a binational legal services and immigrant rights organization serving immigrants, asylum seekers, and deported persons across Southern California, Tijuana, Mexico, and beyond. We focus on providing client-centered, harm-reduction legal services while engaging in advocacy, impact litigation, and human rights monitoring. Our work involves direct representation, medical-legal partnerships, and collaboration with community organizations and volunteers to advance immigrant justice.
We are seeking a Staff Attorney to join our US-Based Advocacy department. The Staff Attorney will provide legal consultation and representation before Immigration Court, USCIS, and California state courts in matters including asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, and other forms of immigration relief. The role involves direct representation, client consultations, community outreach, and education. The Staff Attorney will work out of the Los Angeles office and report to the Managing Attorney. This position is hybrid with in-person duties as required.
Job Duties
Conduct legal screenings, client interviews, and factual investigations.
Represent clients before Immigration Courts, USCIS, and California state courts to obtain immigration relief.
Represent youth clients' sponsors / parents in state court custody or guardianship proceedings related to Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.
Provide representation to detained and non-detained clients.
Develop case plans and strategies.
Work within multidisciplinary teams to identify client needs and facilitate service referrals.
Stay up-to-date on immigration law and policy changes.
Comply with data management and reporting requirements.
Assign casework to legal support staff, including legal assistants and administrative staff, and review their work.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
JD from an accredited university.
California Bar Admission.
Experience in various areas of immigration law.
Strong communication and writing skills.
Self-directed, highly organized, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with limited resources.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suites, and Zoom.
Respectful of diverse workplace environments.
Must have a valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and active insurance policy, or the ability to travel frequently for hearings, interviews, and client / community engagements.
Salary & Benefits
Salary : $68,000 - $78,000 per year, DOE.
Health benefits : Up to 90% of employee medical premiums and up to 70% of dental and vision premiums.
