Job Summary
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) performs inspections on welded products in a fabrication environment. The CWI utilizes magnification and stress equipment to ensure the products meet specifications and quality standards according to blueprints and knowledge of welding and metallurgy. Primary duties will include the visual welding inspection of poles and heavy structural steel assemblies for compliance to the specified detail drawings as well as AWS and AISC specifications The individual is also responsible for ensuring the weld machines are set up and operating correctly and the welding techniques of welders to guarantee the quality of the work.

Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of experience in the welding of heavy steel assemblies, preferably with a portion of that time spent in an inspection role.
- An in depth ability to read and understand shop drawings, especially weld symbols.
- Basic knowledge of ASIC and AWS national codes.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other continuous improvement techniques desired.
- Maintain an attitude conducive to progress through positive change, continuous improvement, and an active contribution to the teamwork concepts.
- Successfully pass a background check, including criminal history, drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision test.
- Adhere to all safety requirements and protocols.
- Meet AWS standards for quality and safety.
- Read work instructions and/or drawings to interpret and confirm production and/or assembly information.
- Verify that the base materials and consumable welding materials conform to the specifications and that the welding filler materials used are as specified for each base material or combination of base materials.
- Perform required tests as dictated by AWS D1.1.
- Record and maintain inspection test data.
- Perform cost analysis of weld efficiency.
- Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department Leader or member of the Management Team, and as directed discard products, materials, and/or equipment which do not meet specifications.
- Conduct research and development investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures.
- Improve existing or develop new welding equipment as needed.
- Develop new or modify current welding methods, techniques and procedures as necessary.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- An active American Welding Society CWI Certificate and maintain for continued employment.
