As a litigation paralegal, you will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys through all stages of litigation, including pre-suit and in-suit matters, specifically handling all aspects of discovery, trial preparation, and post-trial activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys in the management of cases from inception to resolution.
- Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, and discovery responses in compliance with the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Prepare and organize discovery documents, including interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admissions and subpoenas.
- Review and organize client documents, insurance policies, claim documents, production documents, expert files and other documents, to identify key witnesses, establish timelines, and to ascertain other critical information and fact patterns related to the case.
- Review and analyze construction contracts, subcontracts, expert reports, and related documentation for issues related to defects, performance failures, and disputes.
- Timely comply with all pre-trial deadlines established by the Court as it relates to discovery, including the disclosure of any fact or expert witnesses.
- Prepare exhibit lists, witness lists, certain pre-trial motions and other trial related documents.
- Assist attorneys with preparing for depositions, hearings, mediation and trial, including preparation of witnesses and expert testimony.
- Communicate with clients, experts, witnesses, and opposing counsel throughout the pendency of the case to provide and/or ascertain information critical to the case.
- Maintain case files and ensure proper documentation and organization in accordance with firm policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all Florida-specific litigation practices and procedures.
- Meet the firm's billable requirements while adhering to carrier specific billing guidelines.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a litigation paralegal, with a strong emphasis on complex cases.
- Deep knowledge of the Florida Rules of Civil Procedure and experience working with Florida court systems.
- Proficiency in legal research, drafting legal documents, and case management software.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, witnesses, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with construction defect claims and knowledge of related insurance matters.
- Prior experience in litigation support roles in construction law or a related field.
