Position Title: Summer School Nurse FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Responsible to: Corporation Nurse/Building Principal Supervises: None
Evaluated by: Building Principal
Evaluation Period:
- Formative evaluations throughout the school year as per WCS Performance and Assessment Procedures.
- Annual summative evaluation prior to July 1.
Purpose of the Position:
- To identify and treat health disorders among students and provides instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention. To evaluate the physical conditions of students and refer students to appropriate resources as needed.
Minimum Requirements: The following are the qualifications and minimum requirements necessary for a person to perform this job.
- Completion of training necessary for licensing as an LPN and experience in pediatrics and/or public health nursing preferred.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
Essential Functions of the Position: The following functions have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be essential to the successful performance of this position.
- Provides first aid care and medically prescribed services.
- Maintains security of school health supplies.
- Serves as a resource person on health issues.
- Provides staff development on health-related topics for school staff and volunteers.
- Screens and conducts health appraisals for students and staff.
- Provides follow-up evaluations on students as required.
- Recommends corrective action where problems are identified.
- Conducts home visits when appropriate.
- Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and work standards for school health program.
- Monitors compliance of school health program with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
- Prepares health reports for supervisor, board of education and health department.
- Collaborates with other child-support agencies in designing and providing a school health program.
- Corresponds with parents on health needs of children.
- Records immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data.
Secondary Functions of the Position: The following functions, while important and necessary to the position, have been determined by Wa-Nee Community Schools to be marginal to the successful performance of this position.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed or as directed by the Corporation School Psychologist, Corporation Nurse, or Building Principal
Knowledge of:
- Indiana Law regarding health requirements for students and staff
- Policies, procedures and functions of Wa-Nee Community Schools Board of Trustees and the Indiana Department of Education
- Applicable software and applications
Ability to:
- Plan, organize, and schedule priorities.
- Use independent judgment and initiative in making sound decisions and in developing solutions to problems.
- Discreetly handle confidential and politically sensitive matters.
- Make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Tactfully and courteously respond to requests and inquiries/complaints from the general public and staff.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel or crouch.
- Must be able to hear and speak clearly.
- Must be able to lift items of 20 lbs. regularly/50 lbs. occasionally.
