Primary Purpose:
Assist campus with behavioral support. Provide opportunity for skill development or reinforcement within a multi-tieres system of supports (MTSS), including diffusing disruptive student behavior to refocus and transition students into classroom activities. Work directly under the supervisio of a campus administrator.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Associate’s degree or two years of study (60 college hours) at an institute of higher learning or
Para Professional Institute Certificate
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work well with children
Ability to assist in behavior skill instruction
Ability to de-escalate or redirect unsafe or disruptive student behaviors
Ability to communicate effectively while maintaining confidentiality
Experience
Some experience working with children, preferably in a school setting.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist in the instruction of social-emotional and/or behavioral skills contributing to a safe learning environment under direct supervision of campus administrator or designee.
- Assist in the de-escalation of unsafe or disruptive student behaviors under direct supervision of campus administrator or designee. Facilitate student refocus on classroom activities.
- Assist with the preparation or maintenance of student records and behavior related reports in accordance with board policies, administrative regulations, individual education plans and/or behavior intervention plans.
- As directed by principal or designee, keep instructional staff informed of special needs or intervention strategies for students receiving targeted or individualized support.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- As directed by principal or designee, supervise students assigned to in-school suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons. Work with individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher to facilitate return to regular classroom.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal in alignment with MTSS guidelines and contributing to overall campus safety.
