QUALIFICATIONS:
- At minimum a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university;
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned, including a bilingual specialization in Spanish;
- Any experience with and demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned;
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship; and
- Cleared criminal history checks.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Teach elementary school students core academic subjects as well as social and motor skills in the English and Spanish languages, enabling students who are not proficient in English to acquire academic proficiency in spoken and written English;
- Prepare course objectives and outlines for their course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of the state and school;
- Lecture, demonstrate, and use audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to the class;
- Prepare, administer, and correct tests, and record results;
- Assign lessons, correct papers, and hear oral presentations; teach rules of conduct;
- Maintain order in the classroom and on the playground;
- Counsel pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise;
- Discuss pupils’ academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents;
- Keep attendance and grade records as required by the school; and
- May coordinate class field trips and teach combined grade classes.
