Club Manager - Wadawanuck Club

About: The Wadawanuck Club is a 117-year-old family oriented private club located at the head of the picturesque harbor on Nate's Point, in Stonington, CT. The ‘Wad’ Club provides it’s over 800 members and families a rich array of seasonal recreational opportunities including: boating, sailing, swimming, tennis, food service & many social events throughout the Summer. The club officially opens each Memorial Day weekend and formally ends Labor Day Monday. The property is ‘closed’ in late October; however, its members do utilize the property year long, largely for its views and water access.

The Club maintains a main clubhouse with commercial kitchen, bathhouse, 5-Har Tru Clay & 1-Hard tennis courts, a saltwater harbor swimming & beach area, picnic lawns and a 118-slip small boat marina with boat launch ramp .

Food Service is provided by an independent food service partner using the Club’s commercial kitchen facilities. In season lunch is provided daily, as well as Monday, Tuesday (Taco) and Friday sit down dinner service.

The Manager’s direct staff includes: adult & youth program tennis, sailing and swimming instructors and lifeguards, maintenance and cleaning staff and a business manager/ bookkeeper.

The overall governance of the club is the responsibility of its volunteer 12-member Board of Governors.

Club Manager Position: The role of the Club Manager is to administer and oversee the efficient operations of the Club in alignment with Club goals, policies, and procedures. The Club is managed by a volunteer Board of Governors who rely on the Club Manager’s leadership to oversee all aspects of the Club’s facilities and operations. The overall goal of the Club Manager is to provide the best member experience by maintaining the highest standards in hospitality, adult & youth programs, boat docks, tennis and facility operations and member engagement in accordance with Club standards. The Club Manager reports to the Board of Governors directly through the President or designee(s).

The primary duties are to oversee the professional operation of the club, supervise the 15-20 employees, ensure the safety and well-being of the membership, and their guests who access the facilities, personal boats and who participate in various events. Additionally, the club manager is responsible for overseeing the performance and requirements of the food service partner and a range of detail daily duties.

Work Schedule: The manager is expected to be present onsite from approximately April 1st through September 30th each year. The Seasonal flexible full time 40-50 hours per week period runs from about June 15th through Labor Day Monday. Some in-season evening and weekend work is expected. The schedule is necessarily flexible to allow for coverage at functions and private member events held outside of normal operating hours. Normal in-season operating hours are daily from 8am to sun down with a Thursday evening family cook out 9:00pm. Off Season work load drops significantly after Labor Day. Post ‘Closing’ time includes occasional capital project oversite and one monthly Board of Governor ‘Zoom’ evening meeting report.

Location: Stonington, CT 06378 – Preference given to candidates within a 30-minute commute to club location.

Qualifications Requirements

• Ideal candidate will be a recent graduate, late career changer, summer flexible education professional, manager or retiree who is a natural “people person” who connects easily with people of all ages [children, young adults, parents, grandparents & great grandparents], and social or professional standing.
• Experience working at a private club – golf club, social club, yacht club etc. a PLUS!
• Minimum 5 years of work experience in a customer 'people facing' service environment.
• Minimum 2 years of experience managing full operations and a staff.
• Experience in boat operations and docks a PLUS!.
• An active driver’s & boater’s license and be able to pass a background check
• A college degree is preferred, but will consider relevant work experience

Compensation: $35-$45 per hour or equivalent salary. Annual Salary $40-$50K (1,000 hrs) and is flexible and commensurate with experience.
