To be eligible for an ESEA endorsement you need one of the following:
- An associate degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education; or at least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education (defined as 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours).
- The examination for paraprofessionals prescribed by the State Board of Education (ParaPro Assessment). Candidates must request their test scores be reported directly to the Ohio Department of Education from the Educational Testing Service.
Qualifications Preferred:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Two years of child care or aide certification preferred.
- Ability to obtain an Educational Aide Permit through the Ohio Department of Education and keep current.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of computers.
- Good organization skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other personnel.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to perform clerical skills including, but not limited to filing, copying and record keeping.
- Must enjoy working with school age children with disabilities.
- A working knowledge of copiers, faxes, and other devices commonly used in public schools.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must have patience and be cheerful.
- Ability to successfully complete CPR/First Aid training.
- Ability to perform items as listed in the essential duties.
- Ability to communicate clearly and articulately.
- Successful validation of qualifications as determined by interview.
- Other relevant criteria as determined by the Board of Education, Superintendent and/or designee may find appropriate are acceptable.
