Position: Customer Service Engineering Technician Trainee / I / I
Department: Electric Distribution
Reports to: Electric Department Superintendent
Status: Full-time (80 hours), Classified, Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: Per IBEW Contract
Trainee - $24.41
Technician I - $30.77
Technician II - $38.20
(Classification based on skills and experience as determined by the City)
Normal Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Subject to emergency call outs and overtime due to storms/emergencies

For Customer Service Engineering Technician Trainee:

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Assistant Electric Superintendent or Electric Superintendent, is responsible for learning to assist the Customer Service Engineering Technicians and office staff in hardware and software applications, automated mapping facilities management, database design, maintenance, inventory, and records. Performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Learns to help others in the workflow of the data processing stream
  • Learns the work flow with developers, contractors and customers on New Business Jobs to initiate and design electrical work orders and blueprints.
  • Learns to work with City of Wadsworth Engineering Department, outside engineering firms learning design and interpretation for developments, upgrades and relocations
  • Learns to help Customer Service Engineering Tech I and II by learning computer aid drafting to help facilitate electrical new business and rebuilds work orders, blueprints, and mapping.
  • Learns to assist in operation of the SCADA system
  • Learns to do design engineering for drafting and mapping the Communications Department (CityLink) infrastructure, new business and rebuilds work orders and blueprints.
  • Learns software applications (i.e.; Microsoft Office, computer aided drafting, ESRI, database design, barcoding and future applications)
  • Learns the operation procedures of an electrical utility
  • Learns O.U.P.S., outage, and personal protective databases in appropriated digital format
  • Learns the processes involved in construction inspections.
  • Adheres to all safety rules and procedures.
  • Employee is accountable for performing other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Employment:

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and the maintenance of an acceptable driving record and insurability with the City’s general liability policy as deemed by the City.

Preferred Qualifications for Employment:

  • A high school education supplemented by vocational, technical, or college training and prior experience working with engineering principles or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Prior work experience in electrical or related field.

For Customer Service Engineering Technician I:

Preferred Qualifications for Employment:

  • Two (2) years prior experience working with engineering principles or any equivalent combination of training and experience with a public or private power company.

For Customer Service Engineering Technician II:

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Assistant Electric Superintendent is responsible for designing electrical work orders for the electrical overhead and underground transmission, distribution, street lighting systems. Provides skilled assistance for Engineering Technicians, Operation/Setup Technicians SCADA Technician and office staff in hardware and software applications. Performs automated mapping facilities management, data base design, maintenance and inventory and records. Performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide assistance and design for others in the workflow of the data processing stream
  • Assists the work flow with developers, contractors and customers on new business jobs to initiate and design electrical work orders and easements

Special Information:

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check, employment reference checks, a physical examination and a pre-employment drug screen.
