Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Carpenters to join our Wagman Heavy Civil, Inc. team at our Williamsburg, VA project. Reporting to direct supervision, the Carpenter is responsible for carrying out carpentry related duties on bridge demo and rebuild. This includes but is not limited to proficiently executing the building of forms, form systems, pouring concrete, cutting and measuring wood, abutments, overhangs.  This position works along with the entire Project Team to plan and support the completion of assigned bridge construction projects and ensures all plans move forward to meet projected deadlines.  

This is a safety sensitive position requiring work on construction sites with various safety hazards inherent in heavy construction.

This position is subject to drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a carpenter 
  • Familiar with bridge construction, form systems, hand and power tools, and all other highway construction scopes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented

Essential Functions: 

  • Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden and/or metal forms, according to specifications, for molding concrete structures such as: piers, footers, retaining walls, abutments, parapets, caps, columns and bridge decks
  • Saw lumber per blueprint dimensions, using handsaw or power saw, and nail lumber together to make form panels.
  • Lift and handle built-in-place forms and/or assembles, erects and installs prefabricated forms.
  • Insert spreaders and tie rods between opposite faces of form to maintain specified dimensions.
  • Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, and planks.
  • Build rough wooden structures such as: scaffolds, temporary frame shelters, overhang jacks and safety railings.
  • Lift and set rails for finishing machine.
  • Pour concrete in forms and decks which requires vibrating, shoveling and raking. Also assists cement finishers.

Physical Requirements of the Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds from ground level to waist level and 30 pounds to above shoulder level throughout work shift. Must be able to work at heights up to 150 feet
  • Continuous standing and walking required throughout a scheduled work shift
  • Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands
  • Must be able to climb ladders
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 150 feet
  • Must be able to bend, squat, kneel and crawl
  • Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot and humid weather
  • Required to have acceptable corrected vision (in both eyes) and acceptable corrected hearing
  • Required to have the ability to reach, lift and perform work above shoulder height - and the ability to work on uneven surfaces and in confined spaces
