What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Wagman, Inc.?
We are currently seeking an Estimator to join our Wagman Construction, Inc team. Reporting to the Vice President of Preconstruction, the Estimator is responsible for assessing projects and preparing detailed cost estimates for various construction plans. The Estimator works closely with the lead estimators, project managers, subcontractors, and the design team to ensure accurate and competitive project cost estimates that comply with safety and quality standards and align with client expectations.
Wagman is a multi-faceted construction firm with operations in heavy civil, general construction and geotechnical construction services. Founded in 1902, Wagman is a fourth generation, family-owned company with offices in Pennsylvania and Virginia. As a full-service general contractor, Wagman Construction facilitates growth and development in senior living, healthcare, higher education, urban, institutional, and industrial markets in central Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland.
Qualifications:
- Timely, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop relationships with clients, designers, and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of market pricing and trends.
- Ability to conceptualize and create construction budgets based on preliminary designs.
- Excellent analytical, reporting, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Essential Functions:
- Review project plans, specifications, and site conditions to understand project requirements, and conduct site visits to assess challenges and opportunities.
- Perform quantity takeoffs, prepare cost estimates, and create scopes of work for trades involved.
- Gather and compile data for conceptual/bid proposal estimates, analyzing subcontractor bids and ensuring they align with project requirements.
- Maintain up-to-date pricing from suppliers and contractors, and assist with bid proposals, pre-bid meetings, and job site visits.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options to improve project profitability.
- Collaborate with project managers, design teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are considered in cost estimation. Refine cost estimates and confirm alignment with project scope and schedule as required.
- Monitor project costs throughout construction, adjusting estimates to align with actual costs.
- Maintain compliance with company procedures, estimating standards, and safety regulations on all projects and assignments.
- Assist with bid document control, including filing bids, archiving bid data, and issuing project addenda to subcontractors.
Physical Requirements of the Essential Functions:
- Able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods (up to 7 hours).
- Able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. occasionally
- Able to occasionally bend, squat, kneel, and climb (i.e., ladders) throughout the workday.
- Must be able to perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands.
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.).
- Ability to travel to project sites and work at heights above 6 feet as necessary.
- Must have acceptable corrected vision and hearing.
