Position Summary: Wagner College, a distinguished, urban liberal arts higher education institution is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. The CFO will play a key role in overseeing all financial operations, ensuring the college's financial health, and providing strategic direction to support the college's mission and goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures to support the college's mission and long-term goals.
- Manage the annual budgeting process, including the preparation, presentation, and monitoring of the budget.
- Oversee financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to the President, Board of Trustees, and executive leadership team.
- Supervise and mentor the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective cash flow management, investment strategies, and risk management practices.
- Oversee the management of endowments, grants, and other funding sources.
- Collaborate with other departments to support strategic initiatives and ensure financial alignment with institutional priorities.
- Serve as a liaison with external auditors, banks, rating agencies, and other financial partners.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field (master’s degree or CPA preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in higher education or nonprofit organizations.
- Proven experience in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build strong relationships.
- High ethical standards and commitment to integrity and transparency.
- Proficiency in financial software and systems, knowledge of Oracle ERP a plus.
Required (do NOT apply if you don’t meet the following):
- Prior CFO or high-level financial experience in higher education or non-profit
- Relocation to NYC area.
