Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, the driver operates a 1 year old diesel-powered (off road) Ottawa yard tractor to transport and spot trailers at assigned loading docks and/or staging areas. All yard spotting work will be performed on Lake City premises (yard tractor is not licensed to operate on public roads). Driver may need to drive a tractor and trailer on public roadways occasionally.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform a pre-operation and post-operation inspection of the tractor to ensure the equipment is in safe operating condition and submit reports indicating truck condition. Report any defects and arrange for repair as needed.
- Attach drive unit to trailers or containers to safely move to and from dock doors for loading and unloading. Ensure dock locks are in use and/or chocks are in place on each trailer placed into the dock.
- Assist warehouse workers in loading and unloading trailers, as needed.
- Perform daily yard checks.
- Maintain an understanding and compliance with the company safety rules as related to drivers and yard hostlers.
- Check empty trailers and containers for defects and to ensure cleanliness.
- Be vigilant and report any suspicious visitors or activity on the premises.
QUALIFICATIONS

Citizenship – Must be a United States Citizen and COVID-19 vaccinated preferred
Criminal Background and Pre-Employment Drug Test – A clean criminal history and passing a pre-employment DOT drug test are mandatory
Education (preferred level): High school diploma or equivalent
Experience (the minimum level or direct experience in a similar position): Two years of professional CDL-A driving experience preferred.
Knowledge/Experience/Skills:
- CDL, Class A with HAZMAT endorsement and DOT Medical Card is required.
- Safe driving record.
- Must be skilled in backing and hooking yard tractor to trailer.
- Dependable with the ability to maintain a good attendance record.
- Must be able to comprehend the English language in both written and spoken forms.
- Understand written policies/procedures and follow oral instructions.
- Basic math and PC skills are required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to stand, sit, squat, crawl, bend, twist, reach, and/or kneel for up to 12-hour periods and repetitively.
- Exposure to varying temperatures: heat, cold, wet, damp, drafty.
- Work on concrete and unlevel surfaces.
- May be required to climb ladders and stairs.
- Work around hazardous materials and may be exposed to carcinogens, toxic, and explosive materials.
- Possible exposure to areas with high noise levels that may require hearing protection.
- Use hands and fingers to grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying sizes and weights.
- Utilize muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
