Position: Assistant Golf Professional

Job Type: Full Time

Reports To: Head Golf Pro/Director of Golf Operations

Primary Objective: Assist the Head Golf Pro/Director of Golf Operations in the management and daily operations of the Golf Operations Department and deliver exceptional guest satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assist the Head Golf Pro/Director of Golf Operations in the supervision and overall day-to-day management of the Golf Operations Department (Pro Shop, Locker Rooms, Outside Guest Services and Cart facilities) and golf operations to include but not limited to: tournaments, rules, club play events, tee sheet activity, merchandise inventory, range operations, player service operations, cart fleet, etc., to consistently deliver products and services that adhere to the standards of Waikele Country Club; fill in for the Head Golf Pro/Director of Golf Operations in times of absence and provide accountability.

· Responsible for ensuring excellent guest experience; assist with booking tee times, greeting customers, and answering telephones; coordinate guest special orders, access to partner golf courses, assist club groups with tournament access, etc.; manage guest requests, and be accountable for complaints; resolve issues timely and provide follow-up action.

· Assist in the daily coordination of golf course play (i.e., starting and monitoring pace of play) and practice range operations; utilize the POS/reservation system.

· Assist with opening and closing the Pro Shop, Cart facilities, and overall golf course.

· Assist in the performance of payroll tasks as scheduled; adjust, revise, and submit payroll documents; and monitor staff work hours to maximize productivity and minimize overtime.

· Assist with golf instruction and instructors’ lessons and clinics provided to guests.

· Communicate, collaborate, and work in partnership with other departments.

· Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment.

· Assist with developing, maintaining, updating, and utilizing customer database; track and verify all players and guests, green fees, golf cars, club care, handicap fees, and any other charges necessary; facilitate accurate accounting and record keeping.

· Assist with the set-up, execution, and breakdown of course programs and tournament operations as needed.

· Assist with the coordination, development and management of innovative tournament programs, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments.

· Responsible to ensure that all rules and regulations of golf course are being followed to create a safe and friendly environment.

· Assist with checking and cleaning areas of the Pro Shop, clubhouse, and surrounding grounds.

· Assist in facilitating emergency action procedures for the clubhouse and golf course in times of severe weather or other times of emergency.

· Be well versed in industry standards and trends.

· Serve as a role model to staff; must be able to lead by example; act with honesty, respect, and integrity; and anticipate and lead change.

· Must be able to work effectively in a team environment by completing assignments, maintaining consistent work practices, adapting to changing circumstances and respecting diversity.

· Assist in the development and implementation of a continuous improvement process in areas of responsibility based on industry best practices, competitive analysis, service standards, and financial requirements.

· Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

· High school degree or GED Certification.

· Minimum 3 (three) years of progressive work experience in the golf industry.

· Possess fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf and golf operations.

· Strong customer service, sales and/or marketing work experience.

· Must possess strong interpersonal skills and experience in working with diverse people.

· Must be able to follow directions, multi-task and handle multiple priorities simultaneously within a fast-paced setting.

· Display excellent verbal and written communication skills, active listening skills, and personal skills, in effective interactions with guests, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.

· Ability to respond to customer requests knowledgeably and with courtesy.

· Ability to work as a team.

· Ability to problem solve and adapt to various situations.

· Must be able to perform independently and responsibly, while maintaining a professional demeanor.

· Self-motivated and customer oriented.

· Strong understanding of the golf industry and current trends.

· Working knowledge of various computer software programs, to include but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.

· Knowledge and experience in golf reservations systems.

· Must be able to understand, speak, read and write in English.

· Basic mathematical skills for computation and calculation.

· Must be able to work a flexible schedule including mornings, days, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

· Must be able to operate Driving Range Picker, Golf Cart, and utility cart, walkie-talkie radio and other related equipment.

· Possession of valid Hawaii Driver’s License.

· Any equivalent combination of education and/or work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, reach, and grasp; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.; push/pull/move objects; and lift overhead.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

· CPR/First Aid/AED Training Certification.

· Bilingual in Japanese or Korean language.

· Experience with QuickBooks accounting program.
