What You'll Be Doing

Are you the Guest Services Technician we are currently seeking to join the South Wilmington Street Center?
Wake County Housing operates South Wilmington Street Center (SWSC) whose Emergency Program provides evening shelter for 234 men on a day-to-day basis, as well as more intense services through the Progressive Housing Program and the Case Management Program.

SWSC provides more intense services through the Progressive Housing Program. These men are provided with support either through group interaction or individual one-on-one support from a Social Worker to assist them in obtaining self-sufficiency. These men are guaranteed a bed each day as they progress toward their goals and permanent housing. These men are also provided with 3 meals daily, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hygiene kits, a shower and laundry access, as well as outreach and engagement services from our staff.

The Guest Services Technician position provides outreach and on-site facility supervision and resident guidance to the homeless citizens staying at the SWSC.

Essential functions:
  • Manage the day to day operations of a shelter for homeless men
  • Admit/check guests into the facility and help to maintain a secure facility
  • Provide routine monitoring of the entire facility via rounds, supervision of guests and facility maintenance
  • Assist with activities of daily living
  • Monitor and document behavior
  • Provide quality guest services
  • Other duties as may be assigned

NOTE: This position has two different work shifts: Wednesday - Thursday 11:00pm - 7:45am and Saturday - Sunday 7:00pm - 7:45am or Monday - Friday 3:00pm - 11:45pm.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • High school diploma or GED
  • No specific experience required
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Experience working with the homeless population
  • Associate's Degree in a Human Services related field

  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to convey information clearly and concisely both verbal and written
  • Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others
  • Skilled with Office Technology including the ability to utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems)
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills and Carolina Homeless Information Network (CHIN)
  • Ability to coordinate work, follow instructions ,complete task and check for accuracy
  • Detail orientated with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment and remain flexible with daily priority changes
  • Knowledge of data collection with the ability to observe, monitor, collect and record data and assess the accuracy, validity and integrity of the data
  • Diversity skills including the ability to recognize and respect the value of individual differences with everyone seeking services to include the homeless population and those with physical and behavioral challenges

Emergency Service Worker Statement
