Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)

POSITION PURPOSE :

Collaborates and in efforts with the Senior Administrator, develops and deploys a tiered system of specially designed instruction for inclusive practices, incorporating evidence based instructional strategies, and promoting inclusion of students with disabilities within the general education classroom. Provides job-embedded professional learning in order to improve the quality of specially designed instruction, accommodations, modifications, and supplementary aids / services outlined in the students Individualized Educational Programs (IEP), resulting in increased student achievement. Utilizes problem-solving techniques, systematic analysis of data, co-teaching approaches and progress monitoring for teaching students with disabilities, ensuring continuity between the special education curriculum and that of the general education classroom.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensive knowledge of instructional strategies, scaffolding, progress monitoring data collection, and co-teaching practices and approaches;
  • Extensive knowledge of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) process and effective and efficient implementation strategies;
  • Extensive knowledge of inclusive practices and strategies to provide equitable access for students with disabilities;
  • Extensive knowledge of best practices for instruction and ability to analyze data to determine interventions for teaching and learning;
  • Extensive knowledge of processes to effectively problem solve to support student learning;
  • Extensive knowledge of developing individualized educational programs (IEP) and the tools for development (e.g., the Electronic Access to Student Information (EASi) system);
  • Considerable knowledge in coaching, consultation and collaboration skills;
  • Considerable knowledge in effective planning of lessons;
  • Considerable knowledge of instructional strategies and resources to provide specially designed instruction in general education and resource settings;
  • Considerable knowledge of formal and informal assessments for literacy, math and writing for K-5;
  • Considerable knowledge of curriculum and curriculum design including practices for differentiation including the delivery of instruction and assessment of student mastery of content;
  • Considerable knowledge of the development and deployment of professional learning, embedding adult learning strategies and techniques;
  • Considerable knowledge of the role and purpose of Professional Learning Teams (PLT) to support teaching and learning;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Power Point; Google Apps;
  • Effective time management skills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to function effectively within a team environment and to work independently without close supervision;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the community.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in Special Education or related field;
  • Five years of successful teaching experience in Special Education or a directly related field.
  • CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educators License in one of the license areas for Exceptional Children.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Masters degree in General and / or Special Education, School Administration, or related field;
  • Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educators License for School Administrator- Principal, Curriculum Instructional Specialist or Exceptional Childrens Program Administrator ;
  • Experience in providing instruction in collaboration with another certified professional in a school setting;
  • Experience in the implementation of the co-teaching model within a school setting.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Designs and delivers effective differentiated professional learning focusing on inclusion of students with disabilities within the general education.
  • Analyzes general and special education teachers instructional methods to determine the most effective instructional strategies / techniques, scaffolding and resources to support student learning.
  • Raises teachers consciousness and skillfulness around the development and deployment of effective data collection tools to monitor student goals and to make sound instructional decisions.
  • Coaches, models, and conducts fidelity checks of the implementation of instructional strategies / techniques around literacy, math, and writing instruction K-5.
  • Provides teachers with strategies, tools, and techniques to support students with social and emotional learning.
  • Aligns and coaches teachers on effective methods of measuring student performances and methods to analyze data for enhancements and / or changes to instruction.
  • Supports the implementation of appropriate co-teaching approaches.
  • Provides teachers with resources to support literacy, math and writing instruction and consistently gain knowledge in these areas for K-5.
  • Collaborates and effectively and efficiently supports the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education Services (SES) and the SES Senior Director of Instructional Program and Support Team with assigned projects, tasks, reports, meetings, etc.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This position operates in various school environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, students, and the community. Work at times requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or exert up to ten pounds. Physical requirements are consistent with those for light work.
