What You'll Be Doing
Part-time Library Assistant, Temporary, Opportunity with the Wake County Bookmobile
The Bookmobile is the preliteracy and awareness vehicle for Wake County Public Libraries. The Bookmobile Library Assistant works on the Bookmobile’s circulation desk, providing excellent customer service to library members while checking books out, issuing library cards, helping members find books, and other functions including oversight of Bookmobile’s circulation on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. The Library Assistant may support programming under the direction of a Librarian and will have additional responsibilities related to the vehicle’s routine maintenance and upkeep. The successful applicant will possess a North Carolina Driver License with a clean driving record.
What will you do on the Bookmobile?
18 hours a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:00-1:00, Thursdays and Fridays 9:00-1:00; occasional nights and weekends for special events.

Emergency Service Worker Statement
In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

What will you do on the Bookmobile?
- Prepare the truck for travel throughout the day
- Drive the vehicle to and from service locations (valid NC Driver License and clean driving record required)
- Perform basic inspection, upkeep and cleanliness of the vehicle to ensure proper vehicle maintenance
- Promote and highlight programs, events, and services at various WCPL locations
- Oversee operational functions of Bookmobile related to collection management, circulation, and scheduled visits
18 hours a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8:00-1:00, Thursdays and Fridays 9:00-1:00; occasional nights and weekends for special events.

Required
The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- Associate's degree
- No specific experience required
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted
- Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.
- Public Library experience working on a service desk
- Customer Service or Bookstore experience
- Spanish language skills
- Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically
- Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer and ability to learn how to use the library’s computer system
- Ability to read regular-sized print
- Must be dependable and punctual
- Must be accurate and pay attention to detail
- Ability to stand, carry, walk, pull, reach, squat and bend for long periods of time
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to push movable carts loaded to a maximum of 200 pounds
