The Capital Area Workforce Development (CAWD) has an opening for a Reentry Case Manager who will be responsible for providing case management and resource coordination to participants from Wake Detention Center and Community Corrections for the Wake Local Reentry Council. We’re looking for a passionate and dedicated Case Manager to join our team and play a key role in supporting individuals transitioning from detention facilities. The ideal candidate is a proactive, resourceful professional with a strong background in coordinating supportive services including basic needs, transportation, employment and housing assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct client intakes and determine eligibility for services
  • Provide ongoing case management and advocacy to ensure access to essential resources
  • Collaborate with clients, partners and a multidisciplinary team to support holistic care
  • Develop and maintain streamlined referral processes with facility partners
  • Assist clients in navigating complex systems with compassion and efficiency
  • Track performance data and maintain accurate documentation
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and high-impact outcomes

Capital Area Workforce Development is a public-private partnership that focuses on economic development by ensuring the local workforce has the skills, training and education to meet the needs of local employers. The board oversees workforce solutions in Chatham, Johnston, Lee, Orange and Wake counties designed to serve businesses and individuals of all ages. Required

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Associate's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or related field
  • Three years of job-related experience
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminal justice, human services or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered
  • Demonstrated experience in case management or service coordination, preferably in a criminal justice or reentry context
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed records
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other case management or client tracking software
  • Knowledge of local community resources, reentry challenges and trauma-informed care principles is highly desirable


How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

  • Knowledge of Criminal Justice and Reentry Systems: Strong understanding of the criminal justice system, community supervision, incarceration impacts and challenges individuals face upon reentry
  • Case Management Proficiency: Ability to assess client needs, develop individualized service plans and coordinate supportive services such as housing, employment, education, mental health and substance use treatment
  • Community Resources and Partnerships: Familiarity with local and regional community-based organizations, public benefit programs and support services relevant to reentry populations
  • Cultural Competency: Sensitivity to and respect for diverse backgrounds, including racial, ethnic, gender and differences and the ability to work effectively within those communities
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage clients, collaborate with partners and document case notes and reports accurately
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Capable of managing a caseload, prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines and maintaining thorough records in compliance with program requirements
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using case management software, databases, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and virtual communication tools. Legal and Ethical Standards: Understanding of confidentiality, client rights, mandated reporting and ethical boundaries in social service work

Hiring Range: 23.20 - 28.42

Market Range: 23.20 - 33.63

Emergency Service Worker Statement
