Summary: A First Class Apprentice Lineman will be familiar with all aspects of Wake Electric’s electric system and facilities and will perform numerous duties involved in the maintenance and construction of overhead and underground lines in both energized and de-energized states. The First Class Lineman may direct Fourth through Second Class Apprentice Linemen. This position will be on call 24/7 for outages and will be expected to learn advanced Lineman skills through on-the-job training as well as through classroom-type training provided by Wake Electric. Competencies shall be demonstrated through assessment and/or job evaluation prior to progressing to higher levels of Lineman classification.
**This position reports to the Line Superintendent.
**Must live within a 30-minutes driving distance to the Youngsville office.
Principal Duties and/or Requirements:
• Requirement: Mastery of all requirements for the Fourth through First/Second-Class Apprentice Lineman position.
• Adheres to and ensures all assigned employees adhere to and stay current on all safety rules, standards, and procedures promulgated by Wake Electric, NEC, NESC, REA, OSHA, and state and regulatory agencies in the performance of all work.
• Safely works on electric power lines in energized and de-energized states and ensures that all safety precautions, procedures, and rules are followed by self and teammates.
• Supports work activities of crews during outage situations, ensuring all repairs are performed in a safe and efficient manner and there is no hazard to the public or subcontractors.
• Provides on-the-job training to Second, Third, and Fourth-Class Apprentice Lineman trainees or other subordinates and assistants.
• Performs substation work, provides communication with suppliers, and corrects other system problems.
• Provides maintenance of all electric system devices that ensure reliable electric service.
• Performs the following supervisory duties at any time:
> Setting up the job site and traffic controls,
> Framing and setting poles,
> Termination of subdivisions
> Loading and unloading of poles, wire, materials, and equipment, and
> Crew when Qualified Journeyman Lineman is not present.
• Develops knowledge of all relevant equipment and systems, including Wake Electric mapping system, Mobile Work Force, and Work Force Scheduler.
• Ability to direct and administer first aid, pole top, and aerial device rescue.
• Regularly maintains own tools and Wake Electric’s tools, keeps equipment in good working order such as pliers, crescent wrenches, channel locks, wire cutters, hydraulic presses, and bucket truck, and ensures tools and equipment are replaced as needed in a timely manner.
• Maintains accurate daily time record and ensures all time is charged to correct accounts.
• Attends regularly scheduled safety meetings, vendor schools, and special training and safety sessions, as assigned.
• Must have NC CDL with trailer endorsement.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
