Summary:
The Education Program Specialist, Pre-Clerkship
under the Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) department will provide a high-level of support in the areas of curriculum and instruction for the foundational sciences phase of the MD program. This position plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational outcomes of students under the UME department.
This position will report to the Foundations Manager in the Undergraduate Medical Education office. They will collaborate with faculty, staff and leaders across Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM), Atrium Health and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health.

Summary:
The Education Program Specialist, Pre-Clerkship

This position plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational outcomes of students under the UME department.
This position will report to the Foundations Manager in the Undergraduate Medical Education office. They will collaborate with faculty, staff and leaders across Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM), Atrium Health and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Health.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Health or other related fields
- Three (3) years of experience equivalent experience in academic medicine strongly preferred.
- Oversees the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of all basic science pre-clerkship activities and a core course in the longitudinal program for the MD Program.
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring the successful and timely completion of these tasks within the first- and second-year curriculum.
- Serves as the liaison and representative for assigned curricular courses in Pre-clerkship and Longitudinal area.
- Works directly and collaboratively with Associate/Assistant Deans, Course Directors, and Course Faculty, to plan and execute course delivery.
- Arranges, implements, and facilitates team meetings to achieve results. Attends meetings with appropriate Associate/Assistant Deans, Course Directors, Course Faculty and Staff as necessary to provide and gather information for pre-clerkship support.
- Promotes a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building.
- Assists with implementing operational policies and procedures related to the MD program's functioning.
- Works collaboratively with the Foundations Manager to monitor and manage room scheduling systems specific to areas supported.
- Responsible for coordination with student groups, Student Affairs and UME curriculum to ensure minimal scheduling conflicts and address scheduling needs.
- Prepares location(s) for all pre-clerkship curricular events, including lectures and large group events.
- Troubleshoots technical issues that may arise during a class session, event and/or activity.
- Oversees the management of learning management system (Canvas) pages for pre-clerkship courses. Coordinates with educational technology/evaluation/compliance programs to support pre-clerkship curriculum needs.
- Serves as proctor for examinations throughout all medical school curricular years, specifically for in-house (ExamSoft) examinations and Customized Assessment Services (CAS) NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners) examinations.
- Attends and contributes to the discussion as a non-voting member of the applicable pre-clerkship curriculum committees.
- Advises on operations of implementing curricular elements, including design, delivery, and assessment.
- In collaboration with the Associate/Assistant Dean(s) and the Chair of the Subcommittee on Pre-Clerkship Education, assists with data analysis and reporting of end-of-course reviews.
- In collaboration with the Associate/Assistant Dean(s) and the Foundations Manager and Director(s) of Curricular Affairs, contributes to the development of annual budget requests.
- Ensures compliance with institutional regulations and guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
