Health Info Management Tech I, HIM
40 hours per week, evening shift
4:00 pm - 12:30 am, Tuesday - Saturday
JOB SUMMARY: Preps, scans, and indexes medical documentation for all of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist System. Requires knowledge of electronic systems and medical terminology. Supports all areas in the system that scan documents using OnBase and WakeOne. Performs 100% quality control on document images scanned into the enterprise document imaging system ensuring the integrity of archived medical record data used by all health care providers. Communicates with internal and external customers to promote the integrity of the EMR (electronic medical record).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Associate's degree preferred. Data entry experience and experience with healthcare information systems preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, database application, spreadsheet, word processing experience preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: RHIT preferred. Successful completion of the competency assessment for basic Word and Excel skills required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Operates and utilizes the OnBase applications for batch indexing.
2. Performs quality control on imaged documents.
3. Works cooperatively with management team and staff within the Medical Record Department and Document Imaging area to optimize output.
4. Follows procedures to assist with accurately documenting, describing, and communicating information system errors.
5. Assists users with questions or concerns regarding the imaging system.
6. Accesses EMR and/or other Hospital computer systems to accurately identify patient and encounter as necessary to perform job responsibilities.
7. Assists HIM Corporate Manager with staff training needs in section.
8. Compiles statistical and quality performance information.
9. Meets or exceeds monthly quality standard of 97.7% accuracy when performing prepping, scanning and indexing.
10. Performs qualitative manual merges/audits necessary to meet the departmental goals and objectives.
11. Serves as liaison between Document Imaging area and Data Integrity/Identity area.
12. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong computer, keyboarding, and database application skills: Word, Excel, Access, etc.
- Excellent written communication skills - English grammar and punctuation
- Excellent oral and listening skills
- Must be comfortable with information system technology and ability to remain current with application requirements
- Willing to attend training to keep pace with changing work environment
- Ability to work with keen concentration
- Flexibility with changing procedures and able to deal with inconsistencies within software applications
- Ability to examine the medical record and verify patient identity under atypical circumstances
- Ability to organize work priorities and meet specific objectives under time constraints
