JOB SUMMARY
The Center for Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) provides holistic, strengths-based support to all Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSOM) students through coaching and programming. Our focus is to provide our learners with support and resources related to well-being, professional identity formation, character, and leadership development. The Manager position on the Charlotte campus performs management level work directed toward the planning, implementation and coordination of CPPD. In the role of team leader, this position provides facilitation to the Charlotte team of CPPD coaches and recommendations to the Director to ensure timely project completion and compliance with sponsor requirements. Additionally, as the MD Program on the Charlotte campus opens in July 2025, this role will also serve as a Personal and Professional Coach to learners.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field and four (4) years’ experience in a higher education setting. Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or related field preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Partner with leadership of CPPD to integrate personal, professional and character development that will serve MD students in the new School of Medicine campus in Charlotte, and health science and medical professionals in the broader Atrium Health network.
- In addition to managing staff, this position will serve as a student-facing coach for new students in the MD program for up to the first three years of matriculation. As academic programs continue to develop over time, the manager will shift primary responsibilities to management and coaching duties will be given to additional PPD coach hires.
- Collaborate with coaches to craft the content and format of the coaching program.
- Provide excellent bidirectional communication across a wide variety of formats: emails, public presentations, grant reports, one-on-one meetings, on progress of CPPD on the Charlotte WFUSOM campus.
- Partner with the Office of Faculty Affairs and program leaders to provide faculty with professional development opportunities to support character-focused teaching.
- Manages and oversees the planning, implementation, coordination and evaluation of major projects. Assumes major responsibility for coordinating the successful and timely completion of the tasks within projects.
- Arranges, implements, and facilitates team meetings to achieve results. Attends meetings with appropriate staff and faculty as necessary to provide and gather information. Promotes a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.
- Ensures that all aspects of the projects are conducted in accordance to the sponsor requirements, study contract and timelines.
- Ensures compliance with institutional and sponsor regulations and guidelines.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

- Previous supervisor experience
- Previous experience with student support roles, e.g. advising, teaching, coaching
- Solid interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships with business partners across departments and facilitate work among teams
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Skilled problem solver who can work independently
- Ability to manage special projects, work under pressure, meet deadlines
- Budget management experience.
