As the Occupational Safety & Health Specialist, you will conduct task-specific job safety analyses for work performed in various retail stores throughout our trade area. The specialist reviews safety programs to evaluate their effectiveness and ensures implementation. Assistance in the investigation of accidents and determining causative factors to prevent recurrence are amongst the responsibilities for this position. You will conduct health and safety audits of retail locations to identify unsafe conditions and processes that may exist and make appropriate recommendations.
A company car is a potential for this role. Some hybrid work is available.
What you will do
- Provide safety support to retail sites as needed, within the scope of the Corporate Safety program
- Act as point of contact for retail safety questions and concerns
- Conduct task-specific job safety analyses for work performed in various retail stores throughout our trade area
- Review safety programs to evaluate their effectiveness and ensure implementation
- Assist in the investigation of accidents and determining causative factors to prevent recurrence
- Conduct health and safety audits of retail locations to identify unsafe conditions and processes that may exist and make appropriate recommendations
- Perform safety training as needed
- Perform corrective action follow up until safety issues are successfully closed.
- Plan, organize, and conduct toolbox/tailgate sessions and/or other related employee safety meetings and ensure the proper documentation, as outlined by Corporate Safety, is completed
- Coordinate and monitor work standard development, working closely with corporate and operations personnel
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred
- Fluent in English and Spanish preferred
- Must possess 2-4 years’ experience in safety related functions, preferably in retail and warehouse environments
- Proven working knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards, as well as best practices
- Demonstrated effective adult training techniques, teaching, and instruction for individuals and groups, as well as the measurement of training effectiveness
- Strong analytical, leadership, teamwork and customer service skills as demonstrated by previous work experience
- Excellent verbal skills, written communication and presentation skills
- Ability to prioritize and delegate tasks
- Ability to negotiate
- Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail
- Solid PC skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Flexibility with regard to travel. Possible overnight stays.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

How you’ll work
- Ability to carry/lift up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, sit and maneuver in confined spaces.
- Ability to maintain workloads that may include travel to a variety of states for days or weeks, and daily timeframes that could exceed the typical 8-hour shift.
