What are the responsibilities and job description for the High School ESL/ML Teacher position at Wakefield Memorial High School?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The ESL/Multilingual Learner teacher provides instruction to students in the ELE Program. The goal of this position is to guide multilingual learners toward gaining proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing; and to support teachers in general education classrooms who are working toward the same objective.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide instruction in 1:1, small group or in the general education class.
- Address multilingual learner needs at all levels.
- Utilize natural patterns of first language learning in teaching multilingual students.
- Support classroom teachers in the use of ELE standards.
- Model SEI instructional techniques within the general education classroom.
- Support achievement of non-English-speaking students.
- Effectively teach English collectively to students with different primary languages.
- Act as liaison with students, parents, teachers and administration.
- Assist in administering required language proficiency and academic achievement tests (this includes all State testing), along with ongoing monitoring of student progress.
- Maintain database (spreadsheet) of multilingual and eligible students, including home school communication, test data and levels of support.
- Assist in developing language acquisition support plans for all multilingual students and work with classroom teachers to implement plans.
- Work with classroom teachers to support inclusionary practices.
- Perform all such duties as requested by the Principal or Assistant Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Massachusetts DESE Certification - English as a Second Language (ESL)
Prior teaching experience (preferred)
