Wean-to-Finish Herdsperson

Summary: The Custom Wean-to-Finish Herdsperson is responsible for assisting with all daily aspects of wean-to-finish production, including but not limited to day to day care of wean-to-finish pigs, wean pig placement, individual and group medication, nursery and finish load-ins and load-outs, record keeping, and minor facility maintenance. This position requires travel among multiple barn sites with other herdspersons.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds with reasonable accommodation
- Ability to climb and cross stalls
- Ability to communicate effectively and read and interpret procedure manuals
- Effective time management skills
- Ability to do basic math – addition, subtraction, and multiplication
- Regular, consistent attendance
Additional Requirements:
This position requires operating a company vehicle. Any employment offer for this position is contingent upon the review of applicant’s motor vehicle record. A valid Class D license is required.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the farm; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb 4-foot gates, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of up to 50 pounds. Position requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Frequently required, for extended periods of time, to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and communicate.
Organizational Relationships:
Reports to Grow/Finish Custom Supervisor. Interacts closely with Custom Finish coworkers, Wakefield Pork contract growers, and main office staff
Hours:
Typically, Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 3:00 pm. Every 3rd weekend rotational schedule. Occasional early morning or later afternoon/evening load in and outs.
