TITLE: Summer Camp Counselor
DEPARTMENT: Summer Camp
REPORTS TO: Camp Director/Program Director
EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is looking for energetic and responsible employees who have a passion for working with children to join our organization in our Summer Day Camp. The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for rotating the camp group from program to program, participating in the activities with the campers (helping them when they need extra assistance during class). Our Summer Day Camp hours for staff are 8:00am-4:00pm or 9:30am-5:30pm. Summer Camp Counselor must be available to work all 35 days of camp.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Assist with development, plan, and facilitate program specific activities.
- Provide supervision, guidance and act as role models to club members.
- Monitor programs, services and activities to ensure the safety of all members.
- Flexibility when changes need to be made and dealing with a variety of situations.
- Helping maintain cleanliness and order of classrooms and the building.
- Attend staff meetings and follow procedures.
- Develop relationships with members to ensure trust and confidence in them, to recruit them to participate in programs and increase membership participation.
- Staff must wear proper uniform including Wakeman Staff shirt, walkie, earpiece and name tag.
- This position requires standing for long periods of time.
- This position may require lifting items up to 50lbs.
ADDITIONAL REPSONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure a team-based work environment by communicating effectively and positively with supervisors, co-workers, volunteers and other community partners.
- Make recommendations regarding member’s needs, program ideas, and facility needs.
- May be asked to participate in special programs and or events. These events may be scheduled at times when the Club is not open.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Directors.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Boys & Girls Club or youth organization experience preferred.
- Experience working with youth grades 1st-8th.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior.
- Knowledge of youth development strategies.
- Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
- Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
