What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housekeeping/Laundry Assistant position at Wakonda Heritage Manor?
I. JOB SUMMARY
The Housekeeping and Laundry Assistant is directly responsible to the Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor and is chiefly responsible to maintain a clean and cheerful facility for residents, staff and visitors and assures the care of all laundry used to maintain services in the Nursing Facility and Parkview Apartments.
II. PERFORMANCE REQUIRMENTS
A. RESPONSIBILITY FOR:
Cleaning of all areas in the nursing facility and Parkview Apartments.
Clean, sanitary linens and all laundry.
B. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Good physical and mental health.
Stands and walks in limited areas, turns, stoops, kneels, reaches, pulls, pushes handles in cleaning, dusting and scrubbing. Lifts and carries cleaning equipment. Moves furniture in rooms.
Must be capable of turning, bending, stretching, and lifting baskets of wet laundry.
C. SPECIAL DEMANDS:
Good personal health procedures and grooming is a must.
Willingness to accept various duties, accept changes as new procedures and technology are put into place.
Ability to use initiative and judgment in the use of supplies and measuring quality versus cost.
Willingness to work at duties that require patience along with strong personality traits in working closely with other personnel.
Willingness to fluctuate hours according to census in the facility and availability of work to be accomplished.
III. QUALIFCATIONS
A. EDUCATION:
High School education or equivalent is desired. Must be able to read, speak and write English and follow oral and written directions.
B. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Training and experience in housekeeping equipment and supplies desirable. Experience in the use of laundry equipment and care desired.
C. JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of common house cleaning devices such as brooms, mops, polishers, scouring pads to keep area clean and well serviced. Knowledge of laundry equipment and supplies used in laundering of linens and other items. Knowledge of operation of automatic washers and dryers.
Knowledge of aseptic techniques, sanitation and safety procedures and infection control procedures, especially as there is always the possibility of infectious laundry.
Ability to realize there may be:
*exposure to communicable diseases
*experience of muscle strains due to lifting and moving laundry
*possible cuts or minor burns from instruments
IV. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
A. Works in a pleasant, neat facility with modern equipment and supplies.
B. Works in a spacious laundry room with adequate lighting and functional safe equipment.
V. WORK PERFORMED
In addition to the duties listed, may need to assume additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor. Duties include the entire facility; Nursing Home and Parkview Apartments.
Clean and service rooms, baths and offices. Mop floors of resident rooms and other areas. Dust furniture and equipment. Clean window sills, empty waste baskets, arrange furniture and equipment in an orderly fashion.
In bathrooms, additionally scour and polish bathtubs, sinks, mirrors and similar equipment replenishing supplies of soap and towels.
Polish brass and clean and polish glass panels in doors and partitions.
Keep utility storage rooms in neat order by cleaning shelves, arranging supplies and sweeping and mopping floors.
Wash windows and walls of rooms and corridors when necessary.
Use appropriate chemicals from the dispenser for the cleaning job.
Responsible for terminal cleaning in nursing facility and Parkview Apartments.
Removal of stains in linen and laundering of all items from the nursing facility and apartment residents.
Folding and delivery of all linen.
Cleaning of laundry room and equipment daily.
Practices established procedures of fire and disaster plans. Has read these manuals in addition to the personnel policy manual.
Communicates frequently with the Housekeeping/Laundry Supervisor.
Other duties as assigned.
