Description :
The primary responsibilities of this role include basic engineering analysis and design development for process systems related to energy and utility generation and distribution. Incorporation and review of engineering documents from equipment manufacturers is also an integral part of the job. Engineering tasks include various subject areas such as : thermodynamics, statics, mechanics of materials, fluid flow, system dynamics and principles of heat transfer. Applications of these subject areas include such things as : mass and energy balances, pipe stress analysis per ASME Piping Codes, pipe and duct sizing, exhaust stack sizing and draft calculations, analysis of hydraulic systems (head loss, pump sizing and selection, etc.), basic structural engineering and analysis of overall plant performance. Typical work products would include : Heat Balance Diagrams, Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs), Plant Arrangements, Piping Drawings and Pipe Support Details, Equipment and Construction Specifications.
A person in this role will learn the basics of power generation cycle design with an emphasis on cogeneration and renewable technologies. Projects are centered around the types of equipment available in the marketplace, how to best maximize cycle efficiency and meet the energy needs of the customer, and how the energy marketplace functions. Projects typically include reciprocating engines, combustion turbines, steam turbines, boilers, electric and steam driven chillers of various types and configurations, renewable fuels, energy storage and microgrid and distributed utility engineering.
A person in this role is expected to have sound technical skills and will receive mentoring and training on industry specific topics and tasks from a senior engineer to facilitate their development, growth and success.
