Assistant Registrar

The Assistant Registrar performs the Registration duties for Walker self-organized exhibitions and purchased exhibitions, as assigned. Additionally, this role supports the Registration team. The position is ideal for someone with an innate ability to manage and coordinate multiple moving pieces in a dynamic environment, as part of an ambitious and talented creative team. 

WHAT YOU GET TO DO 

Exhibitions

• Lead and collaborate with the Exhibition team on assigned exhibitions. 
• Create installation schedule and strategy, carefully considering artwork safety and physical accessibility.
• Work closely with colleagues across the institution to formulate accurate project budgets surrounding artwork logistics and to review contracts for participating museums of circulating exhibitions.

Collections

• Manage exhibition database, creating and sharing accurate and comprehensive information sets, thoroughly documenting individual works. 
• Organize logistics for collection and dispersal of works including packing, insurance and transport.
• Monitor artwork condition from collection through dispersal.
• As projects require, manage all logistics surrounding select exhibition tours; travel as needed to oversee works in traveling exhibitions.
• Maintain complete, accurate files, routinely transferring completed exhibition files to Archives.
• Assist Registration colleagues during periods of density, which may entail, but not limited to, providing exhibition support, serving as a courier for collection works, and writing condition reports. 
• Willingness to travel and to work extended hours as necessary. 
• Participate in annual collection inventories, conducting research and special projects as assigned.

Communication

• Create and review contracts for lenders and lending institutions surrounding the loan of works or exhibitions.
• Prepare condition reports, receipts, installation guides, crating requests, and packing and crating lists, and other exhibition materials, including but not limited to, label copy and checklists.

WHAT WE NEED IN YOU 

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelors degree. in Art History, Museum Studies or a related field. 
• 1-3 years minimum experience in Registration.
• Experience in exhibitions or outgoing loans a plus

Preferred Skills

• Computer literacy with preference for FileMaker, Microsoft Word, Excel
• Professional, diplomatic and able to work effectively with a broad range of individuals, both within the institution as well as with outside professionals.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workflow.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail in the production of accurate and complete records also needed.  
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills required.
• Experience working in and/or interest in contemporary art is a plus.
• The position requires some night and weekend hours and availability.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS   

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Prolonged periods of standing.
• Use of ladders, crouching and bending during condition checks and installations.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered full-time (35 hours per week), non-exempt. As an non-exempt position, it is eligible for overtime pay. The compensation for this role is $24.00-26.00 hourly
