Nursery Crew Co-Lead for Specialty Pond Plants
Walker Avenue Nursery, south of Sebastopol
We are looking for an independent, hard-working, reliable person interested in an outdoor job on a local family nursery/farm. The nursery specializes in pond and wetland plants. We are a wholesale production nursery (not a retail store). No prior knowledge of water plants or water gardening is required but experience working with plants preferred. Previous farm work a plus.
We are looking for someone who is polite and courteous, has a desire to learn about our plants, is ready for outdoor physical work and has a good work ethic.
Nursery is seasonal with peak season March-July. Can be multi-year position.

Job Includes:
Propagation, maintenance, order preparation of waterlilies, lotus, floating plants, etc. Work is done with one or two additional members of nursery crew. Training included. Position primarily involves weekly propagation, fertilizing plants, pond maintenance, and plant preparation for orders. Includes bending, lifting, pushing carts of plants, moving soil (wheelbarrow), plant preparation for orders.
Requirements:
- Must have a minimum of a High School diploma or GED.
- Reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must have the ability to follow directions and to work cooperatively with the others on the team.
- We work in all weather—rain or shine—during our prime season.
- Position requires ability to lift and carry 25lbs, to bend over and pick up containers of plants, to walk on different types of terrain (including shallow ponds and mud), and to be able to be on your feet for prolonged periods of time.
- Some English required.
Preference for and Advancement Opportunities for those with:
- Prior experience in propagation, horticulture, farm work
Work Schedule:
Part Time or Full-Time, 24-36 hours per week, Monday-Thursday with more hours available during peak season. Closed Fridays. Regular hours 8-4 with overtime on large order days. Flexible hours possible. Option for partial days. Propagation season February 1-October 15.
Position available immediately
Negotiable pay rate depending on experience and skills. Entry level is $17.87/hour during training (3-4 weeks). Increases quickly based on ability and production.
