JOB SUMMARY
The Fleet Technician I is an entry-level position that provides basic mechanical services to Walker County Fire Rescue’s entire fleet under the direction of the Deputy Fire Chief. Fleet Technicians work a regular schedule but may occasionally have to report for duty during severe weather and other emergencies that are outside of their normal work schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Perform preventative maintenance filter and fluid services.
- Flat repairs, change, rotate, and balance tires of all types and sizes.
- Perform basic hydraulic brake repairs.
- Perform basic electrical diagnostic and repairs.
- Perform basic mechanical services.
- Perform basic drive-line, steering, and suspension repairs.
- Perform basic computer skills.
- Maintain a clean workspace

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES
- High School diploma or GED
- Prefer 1-2 years of experience

While performing the job responsibilities, the employee is required to be able to lift at least 45 pounds. He/She must be able to stand and squat for extended periods of time. He/She must be able to stand, sit, squat, bend, and reach over his/ her head. Other physical demands include but are not limited to.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the required duties of a Fleet Technician I, the employee can be exposed to moderate noise levels. Duties can be performed in the shop or at other locations assigned by the shop supervisor, including outdoor areas. Environmental factors include extreme weather conditions at times. There are also times when a technician could be exposed to respiratory hazards, including fumes from gases, chemicals, dust, and dirt. Walker County Fire Rescue’s fleet includes automobiles, light trucks, large fire apparatus (Pumpers and Aerials), emergency vehicles, medium to heavy-duty trucks, and other types of equipment. Exposure to dangerous machinery. PPE should be worn as needed.

Pay: $25.13 - $36.75 per hour
