Senior Accountant

Walker Elliott has partnered with their client to locate a Senior Accountant who will identify opportunities for process improvement within the department and drive solutions to achieve these goals. This position offers broad exposure to the company's accounting functions, with involvement in daily, monthly, and annual finance processes such as closings, budgeting, and physical inventory.

This position is a senior member of the Accounting/Finance department at the company, responsible for providing advanced analytical support and leading key projects. The role includes supporting various departmental needs as they arise, including assisting general accountants.

Additional responsibilities may include payroll, tax, and/or cost accounting as assigned.

Reports to: Corporate Controller

Essential Duties

• Lead and manage projects from initiation to completion, including developing timelines, allocating resources, and ensuring accurate and timely delivery.
• Provide support to other areas within the department when technical or capacity challenges occur.
• Prepare and process select monthly and annual financial close activities accurately and on schedule, which may include preparing monthly financial statements for ownership and senior management.
• Conduct detailed account and activity analysis to prepare general ledger journal entries.
• Prepare and maintain monthly analyses and reconciliations for the year-end financial close.
• Review and maintain audit schedules for the year-end audit process.
• Participate in the budgeting process, including the preparation of schedules and analyses.
• Ensure accurate and timely recording and classification of general ledger transactions.

Additional Responsibilities May Include:

• Tracking and maintaining fixed assets.
• Handling cost accounting responsibilities, such as analyzing cost of sales variances, developing profitability analyses for sales quoting, and analyzing product mix, bills of material, and routings.
• Preparing and filing corporate sales & use, property, and franchise tax returns.
• Supporting international divisions with monthly close activities.
• Providing assistance to general accountants as needed.
• Identifying areas for improvement and developing procedures to enhance team efficiency.
• Performing other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related business field.
• 5 years of relevant experience.
• Broad knowledge of accounting principles and the ability to apply them to a variety of corporate accounting activities, from routine transactions to complex analyses.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with Oracle software is a plus.
• Willingness to travel as needed.
