Description

Summary of Position:  The Outpatient Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Psychiatrist (MD) will work in an outpatient clinical setting, providing psychiatric evaluation and medication management services. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating adults, adolescents, and children experiencing symptoms of behavioral health disorders. The position is part-time, requiring 5-7 hours per week.

Education and Licensure:

  • Required: 
    • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with a focus on Psychiatric nursing and ability to prescribe medication OR Medical Doctorate with Child/Adolescent Psychiatry training
    • Graduation from a state-certified advanced practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health.
    • Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
    • Unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in Massachusetts.
    • Valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Massachusetts.
    • State-issued Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) in Massachusetts.
    • Registration with the state Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) in Massachusetts.
    • No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in state or federal health care programs (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP).
    • Maintain credentials and licensure with major insurance companies and licensing boards.

Experience:

  • Required:
    • At least 1-2 years providing psychotropic medication management for children and adults with mental health disorders. 
  • Preferred:
    • Preferred experience: 3 years as a psychiatric provider and experience with telemedicine.

Abilities: 

  • Required:
    • Ability to deliver high-quality, client-centered care.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and follow through with multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to respond to and follow through with requests professionally. 
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Able to document and navigate electronic health records (EHR) independently.
    • Must be able to sit at work station for prolonged periods of time, consistent with OSHA suggestions and requirements. 
    • Must have the ability to access different building locations, equipment, mailboxes, etc.
    • Must have ability to lift packages up to 10 pounds.

 

  • Preferred:
    • Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply (but not required).

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct outpatient psychiatric evaluations for clients.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat clients with behavioral health disorders.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications.
  • Monitor patient response and adverse effects related to medication.
  • Coordinate crisis intervention and risk assessment for patients with acute mental health conditions.
  • Complete referrals for other services as needed.
  • Responsible for obtaining authorizations for clients.
  • Maintain adherence to outpatient contracts.
  • Consult with collaterals and other providers for continuity of care.
  • Attend supervision and staff meetings and complete required agency trainings.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications


Education & Experience:

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited Nursing School.
  • Board Certification as a PMHNP in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Experience in therapeutic treatment and medication management of patients across the life span in a community mental health setting.
  • Familiarity with and adherence to documentation guidelines for CPT coding requirements.
  • Proficiency in use of computer systems for clinical care and clinical information management.
  • Obtain and maintain professional malpractice insurance of at least $100,000.00 per claim, with a minimum annual aggregate of not less than $300,000.00.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to produce written reports in a timely manner.
