POSITION DESCRIPTION – COMMUNICATIONS/SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER

Position Title: Marketing and Communications Director
Report To: Senior Pastor/Assistant to the Pastor
Length of Service: At Will
Anticipated Time Commitment: 20 hours/week
Work Arrangement: Hybrid ( periodic on-site visits per year)

Marketing and Communications Director

Role Overview

Walker Memorial Baptist Church (WMBC), a historic church in Washington, DC, is seeking a Marketing and Communications Director to develop, implement, and manage comprehensive communication and marketing strategies. This individual will work closely with the Senior Pastor, ministry teams, and external partners to ensure all marketing and communications are effective, engaging, and aligned with WMBC’s mission, vision, and core values.

Key ResponsibilitiesMarketing & Outreach Strategy:

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to increase church engagement and visibility in the community.
  • Oversee branding efforts to ensure a consistent identity across all platforms.
  • Manage digital marketing initiatives, including social media, email campaigns, and website updates.
  • Develop promotional plans for church events, outreach initiatives, and ministry programs.

Communications & Messaging:

  • Create and manage a communication plan that keeps members informed and engaged.
  • Oversee internal and external messaging, including newsletters, bulletins, press releases, and announcements.
  • Ensure all church communications are clear, inspiring, and aligned with the church’s mission.

Content Creation & Brand Management:

  • Identify and work with graphic designers, videographers, and contractors to develop flyers, banners, videos, and other promotional materials.
  • Maintain consistency in messaging, branding, and visual identity across all church media.
  • Write and edit compelling content for print, digital, and social media platforms.

Website & Digital Presence:

  • Manage and update WMBC’s website to ensure it remains current, user-friendly, and engaging.
  • Track website traffic and engagement metrics to enhance digital outreach.

Live Streaming & Multimedia Production

  • Oversee the live streaming of worship services and special events
  • Manage online engagement during online services and events.
  • Coordinate with audiovisual teams to ensure quality production.
  • Develop and manage digital archives of past sermons and church events.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Serve as the point of contact for all marketing and communication needs from church ministries.
  • Work closely with church leadership to align marketing and communication efforts with WMBC’s vision and strategic goals.
  • Provide guidance and oversight for volunteers and team members involved in communications.
  • Support leadership in developing talking points, presentations, and special messaging.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as requested by the Pastor or church leadership to support the vision and mission at Walker Memorial Baptist Church.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in marketing, communications, or public relations, preferably within a church or nonprofit setting.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience with social media platforms, website management, and email marketing tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to WMBC’s mission, vision, and values.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
