The Walker School, a private special education school comprising a coeducational K-8 academic program for children ages 5 through 13, seeks a Special Education Teacher for their Needham Campus. Under the direction of the Assistant Principal/Principal, the SPED Teacher will be responsible for a classroom of up to nine students with social, emotional, learning, and behavioral disabilities. The SPED Teacher will develop and coordinate the academic, behavioral, and social curriculum in the classroom with the support of the classroom supervisor. Essential functions include: 1. Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children. 2. Plan sequential units of study that make learning cumulative, connects learning across disciplines, and are based on the learning standards within the curriculum frameworks. 3. Prepare lessons and materials necessary for daily instruction, setting clear, reasonable standards and expectations for students in all academic subjects. 4. Create multi-sensory, multi-modal, varied opportunities for learning that are built on student’s prior knowledge and experience to build academic and social skills. 5. Translate evaluation of student work into records that accurately convey the level of student achievement, by writing thorough IEP’s and quarterly reports. 6. Maintain a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning and effectively manage the behavior of students in small and large groups. 7. Apply Walker’s model of childcare, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), which requires physical restraint when necessary, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, cooperative group games, and behavioral support. 8. Implement treatment protocol and appropriate therapeutic strategies established in children’s treatment plans, IEPs, and individual support plans. 9. Meet children’s physical needs and provide a safe and therapeutic environment for children. 10. Participate fully in the administrative functions of teaching and child care, including attending and participating in required meetings, completing assigned report writing tasks in a timely manner, and actively communicating with families and members of the students’ multidisciplinary team. 11. Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker. 12. Lead classroom team and promote positive and effective teamwork and problem solving. 13. Lead team in maintaining points/time-out database and weekly log notes. 14. Provide supervision for an assistant teacher by meeting weekly and by providing relevant, constructive feedback in a clear and timely manner and by completing a written evaluation. 15. Lead a weekly classroom team meeting and participate in debriefing sessions as necessary to discuss behavioral issues of individual students. 16. Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to accurately measure student progress toward and achievement of the learning objectives and to plan or modify further instruction. 17. Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures. Qualifications: Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree with certification in Moderate Special Needs, K-8 and a minimum of one year direct teaching experience preferably in a similar setting.

Salary : $56,000 - $75,000
