What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Engineer position at Wall Colmonoy?
The Chief Engineer provides direction and resources to assist their team with researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge/Skills/Education)
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Employee must be proficient using computer word processing and spreadsheet software. Must be well-versed in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and have the ability to use this software to develop product designs as well as do simple computer aided machine programming. The individual must be capable of effective verbal and written communication with other employees, customer and suppliers. He/she must have the ability to take projects from inception to completion using intuitive and creative capacities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Able to effectively use metrics and analytics to manage the growth of the business, make effective decisions, continually improve and drive accountability.
- Understand the financial impact of profit/loss, return on investment and budget management.
- Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposal, commercial and military specifications, and repair manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Designs products or systems such as heat transfer equipment, aircraft exhaust components, tooling and test equipment.
- Creates manufacturing plans and bills of material in WCC manufacturing software.
- Directs and coordinates fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Consults with operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.
- Designs products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
- Evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications to eliminate component or system malfunctions.
- Ability to interface between engineering and internal and external customers.
- Ability to travel to customer sites, other divisions and technical conferences.
QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge/Skills/Education)
- Bachelor Degree in Manufacturing, Materials, Mechanical Engineering – Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in manufacturing or industrial engineering, machine design, manufacturing process development, value engineering or product engineering.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to organize, and excellent communication skills.
- 3D modeling and drafting skills.
- Strong knowledge of precision tools and measuring equipment.
- Project management experience and related skills.
