What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Finance position at Walla Walla Clinic?
Administers and coordinates the Clinic’s fiscal management and recordkeeping. Monitors operating results in terms of revenues, costs, budgets, trends and increased profit possibilities and provides fiscal information and recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer, Board and Shareholders.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development of and adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
- Responsible for financial reporting including preparation of monthly financial statements, budget variance analysis, forecasts and various other financial analyses as requested. Present monthly results to the Board of Directors.
- Responsible for all aspects of daily cash management including maintaining cash forecast.
- Coordinate budget process including preparation of consolidated budget while working with department heads to prepare their departmental budgets.
- Ensure timely filing of monthly/quarterly excise tax return with Washington Department of Revenue.
- Prepare quarterly financial package and covenant calculation for banking partner.
- Facilitate annual financial review and tax preparation with independent accountants.
- Facilitate annual Rural Health Clinic Cost Report filing with independent accountant.
- Facilitate annual 401(k) audit with independent accountant. Prepare retirement plan calculations including 401(k) match. Ensure submission of required non-discrimination testing information, as well as audited 401(k) financials and Form 5500.
- Prepare physician compensation income formula calculations. Serve on Income Formula Committee.
- Oversee Accounting/Accounts Payable, Business Services and Purchasing/Warehouse functions.
- Serve on the Board of Directors and various committees.
- Develop and maintain internal control systems and related procedures, including compliance verification.
- Ensure adequate retention of all financial records.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and/or employees. Access and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, business accounting, or finance
- Three or more years of experience in leadership roles
- Working knowledge of healthcare industry preferred
- Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills
- Ability to use and learn various computer software packages.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Flourish in an unstructured environment.
- Displays professional, ethical conduct.

Time Off Benefit:
- Paid Time Off (PTO): Full-time and part-time (part-time is prorated) employees will begin accruing upon hire date. Waiting period of 90 days. PTO amounts for 40-hour employees are 23 days (184 hours). Maximum annual carryover of 240 hours.
- WA Paid Sick Leave: All employees accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Waiting period of 90 days. Maximum rollover is 40 hours per year.
- Extended Sick Time (EST): Full-time and part-time (part-time is prorated) employees will begin accruing upon hire date. Waiting period of 90 days. EST hours may be used for illness or injury after an absence of three consecutive working days. WA Paid Sick Leave and/or PTO, if available, will be used during this waiting period. Maximum accumulation of 480 hours.
